As I reflect on this past year and the overall changes that have occurred in my life, I sometimes feel as if I have lived a life full of transitions. Google defines transition as “the process of a period of changing from one state or condition to another.” How many of us feel this way?
If we wish to establish a healthy lifestyle that includes growing and living beyond our comfort zone, then transitions are necessary. Oleta Adams sings a powerful song, “Everything Must Change (nothing stays the same)”, which speaks about change being a normal part of life. As long as we live, we will experience transition. We can either embrace the changes that come during our transitions as we learn and grow, or we can choose to remain stagnant in our comfort zones.
In my book, The Journey Continues, I have shared several transitions that I have experienced. They include my transition from wife to divorcee. One of the more thought provoking poems in The Journey Continues is “The Comfort Zone”. In this poem, I lament that there is no growth in the comfort zone:
“The comfort zone is where everyone wants to live; To stay safe and secure without fret or fear; To live this life of security where change never happens, and growth will never become a reality.” (Excerpt from The Journey Continues).
As we prepare to enter 2020, take time to reflect on the transitions in your life. Appreciate your growth and embrace the possible transitions still to come in the New Year.
Blessings for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
